I use standard, and rarely am tempted by suite. I did, however buy m4l during a sale, because it is amazing and opens up all sorts of fun stuff in Live. I have my own library of samples, and vsts, so the built in stuff wasn’t enough to tip me over to suite. Why not get standard and see if there’s anything missing for you personally? You can always upgrade.
It’s not just built in synths between Standard and Suite–there is actually a growing number of audio effects and even a couple midi effects different between the two. Suites also boasts about 60gb more in audio files, be those one-shots, phrases and loops or whatever else. I assume you’ve checked out the comparison between Ableton versions? Max 4 Live is awesome The only thing in suite I even use is Operator. Wavetable is really good too but pointless if you have Serum.
I figured I’d play around with m4l at some point but honestly I’ve only ever screwed around with convolution reverb and then bought some valhalla verbs and never touched it again. Music production? Live set performance? Live show programming? Synth creation? I only use it for music production. I’m doing the same and imo suite offering is too weak for songwriting. Only Audio effects are good and you should look just into that if you need what suite offers, but probably considering price it isn’t worthy and if you are not doing mixing then standard should be more than enough.
